Detectors
Replacing NSC detectors (Hochiki and Apollo): types, successors and bases
Which NSC, Hochiki and Apollo detectors manufactured from 2000 onwards must be replaced, what is still available, which detector replaces older types and when a new base is needed – with the manufacturers’ order numbers.
Detector age
How old is the detector – how long has it been in operation?
- Hochiki / Apollo (NSC, Labor Strauss, MEP, Hertek): The detector label shows a date code or the serial number, from which the year of manufacture can be derived. The commissioning date can be found in the system’s logbook and records.
- Logbook and reports (decisive): The operating time counts from the commissioning of the detector. The date is recorded in the logbook, in the commissioning or acceptance report or in the last replacement report. This gives the years and months in operation.
- Type plate on the detector: The label (usually on the underside or side of the detector, visible after twisting it out of the base) shows the type, serial number and date of manufacture or a date code (e.g. year/calendar week). If no commissioning date is documented, we take the cautious approach of calculating from the date of manufacture.
- Reading out via the panel: With many addressable loop detectors, detector data such as serial number, date of manufacture, degree of contamination and – depending on the system and software version – operating hours can be retrieved via the panel’s operating unit or programming software. We do this during the survey using your programming file.
This determines the replacement interval under DIN 14675: as a rule 5 years, or 8 years for detectors with contamination compensation and testing in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications – details under Deadlines & standards. Send us a photo of the type plate and we will determine the age for you.
NSC Sicherheitstechnik
Which NSC detector do you have installed?
The fire alarm control panels Solution F1/F2 from NSC Sicherheitstechnik work with detectors from Hochiki or Apollo – depending on the system. Which family is installed is shown on the detector: ALN-, ACC-, ACD-, ATJ-…-EN = Hochiki ESP (addressable loop), SOC-, DCD-, DFJ-…E3 = Hochiki CDX (conventional); XP95, Discovery, Soteria = Apollo addressable loop, Orbis and Series 65 = Apollo conventional. NSC lists the detectors under its own item numbers (Bxxxxx-xx); for Apollo we also give the manufacturer’s code. Apollo detectors and bases are not only found in NSC systems: for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Apollo also lists Labor Strauss (Labor Strauss Sicherungsanlagenbau, Labor Strauss Sicherheitssysteme and Labor Strauss Sicherheitssysteme Nord), MEP-Gefahrenmeldetechnik (Labor Strauss Group) and Hertek as system partners. The information on Apollo detectors and bases applies equally to these systems; the Apollo manufacturer’s code is decisive.

NSC with Hochiki detectors: replace older types, base remains
Older Hochiki detectors of the ESP loop series and the CDX conventional series are being replaced by the current generation. The successors fit the existing bases YBN-R/3 (ESP) and YBN-R/6 (CDX) respectively – the base remains.

Hochiki ESP and CDX: same detector, same base
NSC currently stocks these Hochiki detectors. When replaced on schedule, the detector is exchanged for the same type and the existing base remains. Detectors with SCI have integrated isolators and belong to the ESP Top Loop technology.

Bases
Hochiki bases at NSC: when a new base is needed
The standard base remains when the detector is replaced. A new base is only needed if you switch to detectors using a different technology – for example from conventional (CDX) to addressable loop (ESP).

Apollo detectors (NSC, Labor Strauss, MEP, Hertek): replacing older types
Ionisation detectors of the Apollo series XP95 and Discovery have been discontinued. This affects systems from NSC as well as from Labor Strauss, MEP-Gefahrenmeldetechnik and Hertek. According to NSC, the successor Soteria is backward compatible with XP95 and Discovery (protocol and base) – the existing base 45681-210 remains. Conventional detectors of the older Series 60 can be replaced by Series 65 or, using the adapter B04500-00, by Orbis detectors on the existing base.

¹ Ionisation detectors are no longer manufactured. Which detector replaces them depends on the fire detection and alarm concept – we agree this with you. Soteria requires your control panel to support the detector; we check this in advance. ³ According to NSC, the adapter B04500-00 (ORB-BA-10008) allows Orbis detectors to be used on S60/S65 bases. The heat class depends on the place of installation.

Important
Before ordering
- Check the panel: Whether Hochiki or Apollo detectors can be operated on your fire alarm control panel (NSC Solution F1/F2, Labor Strauss, MEP or Hertek) depends on the panel, protocol and programming. We check this using your detector list and programming file.
- Replacement interval: Smoke and multi-sensor detectors after 5 years at the latest, or after 8 years with automatic contamination compensation and testing in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications – details under Deadlines & standards.
- Change of detector series: New bases, different detector types or a changed number of detectors may constitute a significant modification – see expert inspection and fire brigade.
- EN 54 tested (as of 19.10.2026): All Hochiki (ESP, CDX) and Apollo detectors (Soteria, Discovery, XP95, Orbis, Series 65) listed as available are certified to EN 54-5 or EN 54-7, detectors with isolator additionally to EN 54-17. The detectors that are no longer available were approved under the EN 54 or VdS rules applicable when they were introduced; since 2008, CE marking to EN 54 has been mandatory for new detectors – which is why we only list currently certified types as replacements.
- Installation by a specialist company only: Replacement and repair of detectors in fire alarm systems required under building law are part of maintenance and are reserved for a specialist company certified to DIN 14675 – even if you only buy the detectors from us. Details under Legal situation.
- Order numbers are NSC item numbers and Apollo manufacturer’s codes (source: shop.nsc-sicherheit.de, last updated: 18.10.2026).
- Image credits and trademarks: Product images © NSC Sicherheitstechnik, Hochiki or Apollo Fire Detectors. The images serve solely to identify the detectors. Brand and product names are the property of their respective owners. Further information in the Legal notice.
