How it works

How to get new detectors

Whether delivery only or delivery with installation – in three steps.

1 · Enquiry

You send us your detector list, photos of the rating plates or details of the system and tell us whether you require only the detectors or installation as well.

2 · Quote

You receive a quote for the suitable detectors – including installation and disposal of the old detectors on request.

3 · Delivery or installation

We deliver the detectors. With installation, we agree the date with you and your control centre, carry out the replacement on site, test each detector individually and hand over the replacement report and updated detector list. We carry out on-site replacement in our core and extended service area up to 100 km around Schwalmtal – outside the 100 km radius only on special request.

Practical tip

Plan early: detector replacement is not an emergency

Depending on the size of the property, a detector replacement requires lead time. In a small office building, a single appointment is often sufficient. In a hospital, a school or a shopping centre with hundreds of detectors, replacement is carried out section by section – during ongoing operation and often outside usage hours. Planning in good time avoids rush orders shortly before the expert inspection.

Step 1

Record the existing installation

Detector list with types, installation date and control panel. How to find out the age of the detectors is explained on the detector pages.

Step 2

Quote and budget

Clarify quantities, bases, accessibility and working hours – the basis for a reliable quote and your budget planning.

Step 3

Coordinate appointments

With users and tenants, for shutdowns and, for systems connected to the fire brigade, with the control centre of the fire brigade.

Step 4

Replacement and report

In good time before the deadline expires, with function test, replacement report and updated detector list for the next inspection.

Budget: The costs depend on the number and type of detectors, on whether new bases are required, on ceiling heights and aerial work platforms, and on whether work has to be carried out outside operating hours. Planning early allows the replacement to be scheduled into the next budget or financial year – particularly important for municipalities.

Our tip: Start planning at least 6 to 12 months before the deadline expires, earlier for large properties. The deadline runs from the installation of the detectors – for details, see Deadlines & standards.

Frequently asked questions about the process

What information do you need for a quote?

Ideally a detector list with manufacturer, type and quantity – alternatively photos of the rating plates. The manufacturer and type of the fire alarm control panel and, if available, the system’s programming files are also helpful. You can use the enquiry form to upload everything directly.

How quickly will I receive a quote?

Usually within 1–3 working days of receiving your enquiry.

How do I find out how old my detectors are?

The date of manufacture or installation is usually shown on the detector or can be read out at the control panel. How this works for each manufacturer is described on the detector pages in the section “Age of the detector”.

Does the fire brigade have to be informed about the detector replacement?

For systems connected to the fire brigade, shutdowns are coordinated with the operator and the control centre. You can find out what applies in your region on the page fire brigade.

What do I receive after the replacement?

Every new detector is function-tested. You receive a replacement report and an updated detector list for your system documentation and the next expert inspection.

How early should I plan the detector replacement?

We recommend starting at least 6 to 12 months before the deadline expires, earlier for large properties. This leaves time for the survey of the existing installation, the quote, budget approval and coordinating shutdowns with users and the fire brigade. For more information, see Plan early.

Which of your detectors are due?

Send us your detector list or give us a call – you will receive a quote without obligation, with or without installation.
